Every year, Bangkok, Southeast Asia's street-food destination par excellence, places vegetarian cuisine in the spotight. Imported by Thai people of Chinese origin who settled around Yaowarat Road, this tradition linked to Taoism has since seduced the entire city. During the festival, participating restaurants and stalls can be identified by their little yellow flags, or you can just venture into the heart of Chinatown. The diversity of food and dishes offered is quite amazing and a credit to the gastronomic reputation of Bangkok. The festivities continue at Chinese temples: the faithful, who practice a vegetarian diet for religious reasons, are dressed in white and attend colourful ceremonies.
